The British Garden, organized by the Royal Horticultural Society, at the Taipei International Floral Expo 2010 commemorates the 350th anniversary of the Royal Society which has been a prime contributor to the development of modern science around the world.
The garden is designed for a display period of six months from the opening of the Expo in November 2010. At its centre is an 8m diameter circular pool. From a plinth located towards the back of the pool rises a 4.4m high steel structure in which a double helix supports a globe surmounting a bowl from which water descends by means of a rain curtain. Paving and lighting bollards surround the pool and there are two decked areas, one providing access from the front and one providing a seating area at the rear. The garden is enclosed by steel mesh fencing incorporating LED lighting.
The plants have been chosen to survive in the sub-tropical Taiwanese climate, they will however, give a sense of the mixed borders seen in Britain.
